A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to take a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. It was a weekend trip with my daughter and we stayed at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. This was the first time we’ve stayed on this property, and after 3 days there, I really hope it isn’t the last!
We arrived Thursday night, almost 9pm. My original party was for 4 – me, hubby, son & daughter, but due to a change in my son’s schedule, both him and hubby could not join us. Since I already paid for them, I asked my sister-in-law, who lives in Florida, if she would like to meet us there with her daughter and stay with us. Now since this was last minute, I hadn’t called Disney to make this change. So when we arrived at the Beach Club check in counter, I asked one of the cast members there if I can make this change. Now first of all, there were people in front of me being checked in and I asked this one cast member because he was there behind the counter, if he could check us in. He informed me that he hasn’t checked in guests in a long time as he no longer does that, but he would absolutely help me. I offered to wait but he insisted, so I went ahead and told him how I had done the online check in but we had this last minute change. He was great – not only did he take the time to make these changes for us, he gave me 2 new Magic Bands for my sister-in-law and niece, but also started up conversations with my daughter in an effort to not have her bored just standing there waiting for us “adults” to finish this checkin process. This is just the kind of attention and kindness that I always expect to find at Disney.
We finally finished and we went on our way to our room!
These rooms are inside, so we took an elevator up to the 4th floor and looked for our room #4679. We found it, and I have to say that so far I love the decor – a little disappointed to have a broken shell for our room number but no big deal!!
Our Magic Bands worked wonderfully to open our door – this was one of my concerns. Always waiting for something to go wrong with these bands, but so far it worked like a charm! Now as we entered our room we were in awe! It was so pretty and comfy looking, and best of all we had a view of the pool area!!
We had some time before the pool closed, so my daughter changed right away and we headed down to explore the resort and go for a swim!
It was great! We were only told that we had 10 minutes left but nobody was watching over us trying to rush us out!
I didn’t really call room service or housekeeping until we had a minor emergency with the toilet – which can happen anywhere you go. I called maintenance and within minutes they were in my room to fix the problem. We didn’t have to stay to wait for housekeeping, so we went to the pool and by the time we returned to our room everything was clean and we had new, clean towels! Great service!!
The pool and entire resort area is beautiful and really makes you feel like you are somewhere else other than Florida! This is a New England-style lakeside resort with a lighthouse and all! You can rent mini-power boats and sail around the lagoon, you can go relax by the beach area on a lounge chair or hammock, or just walk around and make your way to the Boardwalk hotel which is right across the Beach Club. Over by the Boardwalk, you can rent bikes for 2-4 people so as you can see there are many activities to enjoy at this resort.
Now, if you enjoy food there are plenty of places right here in the resort to enjoy! For quick grab & go meal, snack or just to stock up your room, the Marketplace is a great place. They had many things to choose from and you can also buy the souvenior mugs and buy refills for the length of your stay – totally worth every dime!!!
As far as restaurants go, you have some options but it is recommended to make reservations in advance. If you are looking for fine dining at a signature restaurant, give the Yachtsman Steakhouse a try! This restaurant is located at the Yacht Club Resort which is next door and shares the pool with the Beach Club. Here you can enjoy premium steaks, fresh seafood and more with your entire family. Although it is fine dining, it is family friendly. There is a dress code but nothing crazy – just don’t wear tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, torn clothing, cut-offs or shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.
If you enjoy buffets, the Cape May Cafe is excellent! For breakfast, they offer a Character Breakfast buffet which I LOVED!!! We ate here on a previous trip and there were so many food choices – mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage and more! We were visited by the fab four during our breakfast, all wearing their swimwear! It was a great time!!
For dinner there are no characters but you still have a seafood and more buffet…lots of delicious food to choose from.
If you are looking for burgers and icecream, “shore” style – check out Beaches & Cream Soda Shop! If you are in a group, try the Kitchen Sink….gotta try it atleast once!
Another good place that is located next door at the Yacht Club is the Captain’s Grille. Burgers and Seafood options, plus they are also open for breakfast!
Looking for a lounge, well you are in the right place! You have 3 places to choose from: Ale and Compass Lounge, Crew’s Cup Lounge, and Martha’s Vineyard all located at the Yacht Club. Great food and drinks for all!
When you are out enjoying the pool and are in need for a snack or refreshment you can go to Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill!
There are so many options you won’t know where to go first!
Another plus for me was that we were within walking distance to Epcot. We took the boat in the morning but walked back in the afternoon and it was great! The walk was relaxing and I enjoyed it! It took us about 10 minutes but I loved it!
Now, I also have to tell you about the pool!! Wow!! Storm Along Bay is awesome!! Sand at the bottom pool, with awesome slides, lazy river and so many areas that it wasn’t too difficult finding a spot that wasn’t too crowded(if that’s what you are looking for)!
There are lifeguards stationed at various locations, life vests and towels are available for all guests and there are plenty of tubes for the lazy river. This was by far one of the best pools I’ve ever been to in Walt Disney World – well, not counting Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach!
This resort is in the Deluxe category, so if you are able to splurge or are looking for a vacation where you can do more than just theme parks, I highly recommend the Beach Club Resort!!
